The legend began on June 25, 1966, when Sidney and Frances Koch opened Koch's Take Out Shop on their 28th wedding anniversary. "My parents always wanted a place around a campus," Bobby reminisced in a January interview with Family Business. "They loved being around students."
A Family Tradition
Bobby remembered his mother delivering homemade chicken soup to anyone who was sick. "She was the quintessential Jewish mother," he said. Family members handed out sliced meat to customers waiting in line, most of whom they greeted by name. Bobby and Lou gradually took over for their parents in the '80s and renamed the business Koch's Deli.

Where should I start? This place is a HIDDEN GEM!! I was visiting for with my family from Texas, and when i say everything about this place exhibits the brotherly love that represents Philadelphia. The staff were very friendly to me and my family, and the food was just AMAZING. Portions were more than enough, flavor was on point, and the prices were very reasonable. I highly recommend giving this place a try.

Heard about this Deli. One of the best from the area Ordered a Hoagie and it is amazing. The layers of fresh pastrami and salami, perfectly stacked with crisp lettuce and onions on a soft roll. Simple, fresh, and absolutely delicious.. Cant wait next visit for varied selections.

I ordered a huge platter for 15 people and they did not disappoint. The whole order is fresh, beautiful, and tasty. And the workers were so sweet and considerate. This will definitely be a staple in my household.

Best pastrami Reuben I’ve ever had I think. Perfect ratio of meat to cheese and the marble rye set it over the edge. Great welcoming atmosphere when you walk in, was given 4 or 5 samples of cheese and meat while waiting for my sandwich. Great variety of sodas and chips to go along with your sandwich. 100 percent will be going back and trying everything on the menu.

Digging in and glad I gave this local spot a shot. On one side, a massive pile of perfectly crisp fries; on the other, a double-decker turkey club that’s unbeatable. Ordering was smooth, with the staff double-checking everything. 10/10.

Philly is a city of sandwiches/hoagies, and Koch's Deli upholds that reputation to the highest degree. Whether resident or tourist, everyone should try this shop at least once, it's truly a neighborhood gem! Long local history, friendly staff, and a delicious variety of sandwiches. I have only tried their specialty hoagies whenever I stop in-- they are always high quality, fresh, packed with flavor, and hefty. I cannot recommend this shop enough!

Word of mouth is everything 😉 My friend told me this place had the best hoagies. She knows how picky I am. She told me if I had a complaint about this place something's wrong with me. I had my 1st today.I have no complaints about the food/service both were excellent. My only complaint would be it's a 5min walk from my house. I need a longer walk to burn off the calories I'm about to gain. 😉👍🏽
